Serenity Suite The Serenity Suite at Sackville Memorial Hospital provides a comfortable, homelike setting for critically or terminally ill patients and their families and friends to be together during this difficult time. The suite allows family members to be more actively involved in the patient's care during his or her final stages of life, while providing the best quality of life for the patient. The suite facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to palliative care with services from nurses, physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, social workers, dietitians and pharmacists. Resources from within the community, including VON and pastoral care, also play a key role in palliative care. The private suite is dedicated to the special needs of the patient and family and includes a kitchen area, sitting area, sleeping accommodations and a large shower. The suite features a special mattress that provides comfort to the patient while protecting the patient's skin. The goal of the suite is to make the end of life process as peaceful and comfortable as possible. This is made possible through the best medical practices provided by Sackville Memorial Hospital and by creating an environment where the patient, family and friends can be as secure as possible. Sackville Memorial Hospital has always cared for the needs of patients in the last stages of life. In recent years the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary raised funds to create a palliative care family room and the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation helped raise funds for the Serenity Suite. Mission Palliative care is a special kind of health care for individuals and families who are living with life-threatening illness usually at advanced stages of their illness. |
