Hospital-Based Social Work Services

The Moncton Hospital
Hospital-based social workers are assigned to various units, such as psychiatry, pediatrics, maternity, orthopedics, neurosurgery and rehabilitation, geriatric medicine, oncology, burns, cardiology, surgical, palliative care and general medicine.

Social workers provide a broad range of social work services to the client/family during the hospital stay which plays a vital role in maintaining wellness during the hospital stay, while transitioning back to the community and throughout the clinical treatment process. Social workers in the hospital setting assist individuals and families to resolve social, emotional and environmental issues related to their illness and which interfere with successful medical treatment and the quality of client-family life.

Social Work Services also includes some outpatient services within the following programs at The Moncton Hospital:

  • Neuroscience/Rehabilitation: Rehabilitation Day Treatment Program includes assessments, consultation, resource finding and individual and family counseling.

  • Geriatrics: Seniors’ Day Hospital includes assessments, consultation, resource finding and individual and family counseling.

  • Women’s and Children’s Health: Outpatient and ambulatory care services include prenatal and postnatal follow-up. Pediatrics covers short-term outpatients when no other community services are involved.
We also offer social work services at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
