Services offered at Addiction Services:

Inpatient
  • The voluntary 20-bed detoxification unit provides expert medical care and support for patients undergoing withdrawal from alcohol and/or drugs, crisis intervention or interruption of gambling activity, and assisting patients in making a long-term recovery from their addiction. Patients are self-referred, or referred through a variety of agencies.
  • Health professionals can meet with their clients at Addiction Services if there is a need.
Outpatient
  • Community Services: Prevention and education services which include presentations, education for professionals and community groups, consultation, community mobilization and the development and promotion of programs.
  • Adult Outpatient Services: Social workers provide assessment and counselling to individuals and families facing difficulties with alcohol, drugs or gambling. As part of the recovery process, we assist the clients in developing a personal plan of recovery.
  • A Provincial Gambling Helpline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-856-1234.
  • Youth Treatment Program: Social Workers with specialized experience in dealing with adolescents provide a range of individual and group services to support youth and their families. Group support sessions are also available for parents.
Methadone Maintenance Program

A methadone maintenance treatment program is available for individuals needing help for opiate addiction. Treatment is offered by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of nurses, social workers and physician(s).

Clients can receive individual counselling, group councelling, information sessions and health promotion. The goal of the program is to provide quality service while considering the best practice standards for treatment of clients suffering with addictions. The program also helps patients to rebuild relationships with their loved ones.


The following resources are available by referral:

  • Provincial Rehabilitation Centres: For adults 18 years of age or older; referred by an addiction counsellor. These residential programs, located throughout the province, are designed to help individuals with a chemical addiction and/or problem gambling to achieve a long-term recovery.
  • Long-Term Rehabilitation Program: Lonewater Farm in Grand Bay has a long-term residential program for men with an individualized length of stay, from six months to one year.
  • Portage: There is one residential centre for adolescent substance abusers in New Brunswick:
